THE MAKING OF MARIE ANTOINETTE BOOK

This publication brings together the work of American filmmaker, screenwriter and photographer Andrew Durham during the filming of Marie Antoinette, the iconic film directed by Sofia Coppola and released in 2006.

Filmed in exceptional locations such as the Palace of Versailles, the film constructed a unique visual universe around the figure of Marie Antoinette, combining 18th-century opulence with Coppola's characteristic contemporary perspective. The spectacular costumes by Milena Canonero, winners of the Oscar for Best Costume Design, shoes created by Manolo Blahnik and a cast led by Kirsten Dunst and Jason Schwartzman contributed to creating an aesthetic that continues to be a reference two decades later.

A friend and regular collaborator of Sofia Coppola, Durham closely documented the entire creative process, from the days of filming to the film's premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. His photographs show an intimate and spontaneous perspective of behind the scenes: actors between takes, moments of makeup and preparation, and scenes in which the boundaries between the reality of Versailles and cinematic fiction seem to disappear.

The book brings together numerous images, some of them previously unpublished, alongside an oral history of the production written by Keaton Bell and a new conversation between Andrew Durham and Sofia Coppola. A visual journey through the creative process and atmosphere of one of the director's most recognizable films, allowing you to discover from within the construction of her particular and fascinating universe.
