Born and raised in the southern state of Kentucky, interior designer Michael Bargo has quickly become part of New York's design elite since opening his first eponymous gallery in the living room of his Cobble Hill apartment just over a decade ago. His first steps into the world of interior design were taken by selling a mix of vintage and emerging designer items on Instagram, which soon led him to open a second gallery in a Chinatown shopping mall and a series of interior design projects including: musician Mark Ronson's Manhattan townhouse and fashion label The Row, where he works with founders Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen to define the brand's visual language. After nine apartments and a gallery, he now lives between his loft in the financial district and a pied-à-terre in Paris.
Bargo is known for a style that combines mid-20th century design icons with emerging contemporary voices, a distinctive use of textures and colours and a clear focus on comfort. This makes him one of the most interesting voices in interior design today.
As a child, I dreamed of living in a house like (((Prince William and Prince Harry's))). My favourite memory of my home is (((any memory with my friends))). My favourite object (((is a silver box that belonged to my grandmother))). The secret to good interior design is (((confidence))).
The feeling of home represents (((security and comfort))). My favourite room is (((my living room))). Every home should have a dog. The design reference I always come back to (((is Alexander Iolas' home))). The historic home I'd love to live in (((is Versailles))). The best interior designer (((is Jacques Grange))).
