Gallerist
Perched on a sun-drenched hillside in the Silver Lake neighbourhood of Los Angeles, gallerist Gabriela Rosales is meticulous in choosing the pieces she exhibits. With a predilection for French Art Deco, she talks about her attraction to <#<"originality, craftsmanship, materials and a collective, innovative spirit that will probably never be duplicated.>#>

Rosales currently runs her Formative Modern gallery from her Spanish-style home, and is considering opening an independent space after having visited several venues near the city's gallery district, although she is willing to take the time to find the right space. <#<"I'm not a store. I don't run a high-volume business">#>. She displays her carefully chosen selection throughout the home, which coexists with the sophisticated black lacquered floors. Each piece has been carefully chosen, giving great importance to its historical context. <#<"Every choice is a considered decision and something I can commit to">#>.
As a child, I dreamed of living in a house like (((Rachel Ashwell's. I idolised her.))) My favourite memory of my home is (((the day I finished designing my garden. I felt as if I'd gained square metres as a result.))) My favourite object is a (((surrealist painting from 1948 by Helen Lundeberg that my mother gave me.))) My secret to being a good hostess is (((to make sure there's a pleasant fragrance.))) The secret to good interior design is (((change and doing without the unnecessary.))) Top of my wish list for household items is (((a sophisticated cat house.)))
The historic home I'd love to live in (((is the Irving Gill Miltimore residence, built in 1911 in Pasadena. It's a simple, very authentic cubist-style home by one of California's first modernist architects who is often overlooked.))) My favourite room is (((whichever one is being rearranged at the time.))) Every home should have (((some organised chaos. I think perfection ruins the possibilities.))) Home is where (((I can express myself and experiment.))) The best interior designer (((is Jean-Michel Frank. We still live under the influence of his design.)))
