We are working on a traceability system to identify manufacturers included in our supply chain. We have a compliance programme and constantly audit our suppliers to ensure they comply with our code of conduct.

AIR OUT

Hanging your clothes outside to air them out is a more sustainable option than washing them every time you wear them. Washing clothes wears away the fabrics and consumes water and energy.

FILL THE WASHING MACHINE

Each load consumes water and energy; waiting until the washing machine is full reduces the number of washes you do, helping you to lessen your environmental impact.

WASHING TEMPERATURE

Washing at low temperatures is easier on fabrics, extending their life, and consumes less energy, thereby reducing CO2 emissions.

SPIN CYCLE

A gentle spin cycle curbs the release of microfibres to reduce peeling and the environmental impact.

TURN YOUR GARMENTS INSIDE OUT

You will reduce the wear on the fabric and help maintain the product's original colours.

HANG DRY

The dryer consumes a lot of energy. Dry your clothes on a clothes line to help care for the fabrics, reduce wrinkles, and consume less energy.

RECYCLE

When you are done wearing your garments, don’t throw them away—you can bring them to our stores and give them a new life.

Zara Home collaborates with Circular Systems, a company that has developed a technology - called CBD Hemp crop leftovers - capable of creating new quality fibres from the remains of hemp crops, helping to reduce the need to extract new raw materials. The process is as follows:

1. After the hemp harvest in Germany, Circular Systems collects the remains of this plant and, with a special machine, separates the green stems from the leaves and seeds.

2. The hemp stems are opened, cut and dried. The hemp fibres are then separated and are refined to make them suitable for garment and fabric production.

3. The resulting fibres, called CBD Hemp crop leftovers, are mixed with other fibres, such as organically grown cotton or recycled cotton, to create new threads.

Boost to R&D+i in the Andalusian countryside (Spain)

In 2022, the Group signed an agreement with IFAPA and Espalgodón to promote research, training and technological development activities regarding cotton cultivation in Andalusia. This collaboration, which has a duration of four years, aims to advance in best practices from an environmental point of view, and to improve the productivity of these crops. In fact, as a result of this agreement, the first trial on organically grown cotton was carried out in two farms in the province of Seville, in order to study its viability and performance compared to conventional cotton.

Within this project, pilots on key issues for the sector will also be developed, such as cultivation of this fibre in deficit irrigation conditions and the analysis of the raw material’s quality. In addition, it considers trials on the different varieties of cotton or the machinery used for its collection. The goal is to scale these results to the sector as a whole.

Plastics for Change was created in 2011 to use plastic waste as a resource and develop recycling infrastructure in developing regions of India, which create jobs for some of the most vulnerable members of society.
